How to Stay Paleo at the Airport

 

Whenever you travel, you risk copping out on your diet. It’s pretty easy to get to the airport, see the McDonalds and grab a Big Mac. Especially after you tell yourself, “it’s okay I’m at the airport. I can cheat once in awhile.” The reality is you can cheat, but you will regret afterward. Here are some tips on how to stay Paleo at the airport.

 

 

 

Bring Food

Bringing food is a sure way to stay on your Paleo Diet. You can pack a bag of nuts and/or seeds. My favorites include macadamia nuts, brazil nuts, hazelnuts, almonds, cashews, pecans, pumpkin and sunflower seeds. Nuts are a great source of nutrients and antioxidants. If you are looking for something more substantial, make yourself a grass-fed burger with a salad, a piece of chicken or try wrapping either in a coconut wrap!

 

Some other Paleo food to bring to the airport include:

  • Cold cuts from your local deli (stay free from nitrates)
  • Free-range chicken wings
  • Skirt steak
  • Jerky
  • Almond butter with an apple
  • Low glycemic fruit (berries, melon, cherries, strawberries)
  • LIFT Protein Muffin
  • Veggies - cucumbers, celery, carrots, peppers

 

If You’re Opposed to Bringing Food

If you are not the type to bring food to the airport, you may not be able to stay 100% Paleo, but there are some great options that beat a Big Mac any day.

 

Chili’s (or equivalent – Ruby Tuesday’s, Diner, etc.): The last trip to the airport, my options were limited. I was between the salad from the refrigerator (with the nasty cold cuts) or Chili’s. I decided to go with Chili’s. I ordered a burger with bacon, lettuce, and tomato in a salad wrap (extra lettuce). Instead of fries, I asked for steam broccoli in butter with a side salad asking for oil and vinaigrette.

Sushi: If you see a sushi restaurant, aim for the sashimi. (Yes, it may get pricey to fill you up.)

 

Chinese: Instead of the noodle dish, ask for chicken, beef or pork with veggies! Make sure to get steamed without the sauce.

 

Ordering food at the airport takes willpower. Don’t cheat! You will regret it afterward. These are some quick tips, to stay Paleo at the airport! You will be proud of yourself for staying true to your diet!
